On October 19, 2019 The Village of Riverdale hosted its Breast Cancer Awareness event, hosted by First Lady Mrs. Lawrence L. Jackson at The Village Eatery. The room was filled with women wearing pink, showing their support of Breast Cancer Awareness for the month of October.

Participants listened to women share their stories and experiences dealing with Breast Cancer at the event, along with refreshments, and vouchers from Sunrise Health Clinics for mammograms.

The Village of Riverdale would like to thank our Breast Cancer Survivors: Deputy Clerk Carol McGhee, Margurite Pierce & Juanita Smith for sharing their testimonials, personal experiences, and their bravery during the month of October. We’d also like to thank all of the residents and vendors for attending. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s event in 2020.

Thank you for attending October’s Coffee with the Mayor!

By News

On Saturday October 12, 2019; The Village of Riverdale hosted their first Coffee with the Mayor event of the season, with special guest Congresswoman Robin Kelly, State Representative Will Davis, and Thorntown Township Assessor Cassandra Ward-Holbert.

The Townhall meeting gave residents an opportunity to voice their concerns and ask questions directed to local officials, and for officials to address any pertinent issues in the Southland community.

The event started with a welcome from Mayor Lawrence L. Jackson, thanking residents for attending and participating in the conversation. Soon after residents were welcomed by Thornton Township Assessor Cassandra Ward-Holbert; who gave insight on the property tax cycle this year, and answered all questions concerning the assessment process, exemptions residents may be entitled to, and appeals.

At the event, Congresswoman spoke on a number of wide ranging issues included but not limited to; education, healthcare, jobs, seniors and economic development. She spoke about Villages in the Southland working together to receive grants for a 911 center.  “These federal investments will help fill in the gaps so that our communities, residents and firefighters are safer and better protected”, said Congresswoman.
